Dr. Hastings is currently a physician-owner in
the McKenzie-Hastings Institute for Foot &
Ankle
Surgery in Harbour Breeze and Obici
Hospital; both locations are in Suffolk, VA. He
is board-qualified in foot and ankle surgery by
the American College of Foot & Ankle
Surgeons. His practice is a multi-focal entity-
one of his main focuses is diabetic limb
preservation, salvage, and reconstruction.
He is an associate professor at the Eastern Virginia College of Medicine, an attending physician at the Eastern Virginia Medical School
PM&S-24 residency program, and is also on staff at the Hampton VA.
Dr. Hastings completed his residency and fellowship in Boston
in the Department of Surgery at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Harvard Medical School. That program is internationally known
specifically for their diabetic limb preservation, salvage, and reconstruction training and techniques. That period included time
at the Joslin Diabetes Center, a world leader in the prevention, treatment, and research of diabetes. He has also has spent time at
Yale and The Cleveland Clinic.
Dr. Hastings has published articles and presented research in many areas over his career. He has two
foreign medical missions planned for 2009- one to Vietnam to correct complex pediatric limb deformities, and another, to Mexico with
the Yucatan Crippled Children’s Project, to again, repair complex pediatric limb deformities. Dr. Hastings currently sits on the Board
of Directors of the Virginia Podiatric Medical Association and also on the Board of Directors of the Hospice Alliance, a non-profit
organization.
Despite the increasing incidence and prevalence of diabetes and its complications in the U.S., Dr. Hastings is continually
devoted to preventing lower extremity complications from diabetes in not only Suffolk, Virginia, but the around world.
