Marilyn’s work at the Heart Institute at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD furthered her interest in research, and led to a fellowship to study at Boston University in Nursing Supervision, (while working simultaneously as a Medical-Surgical Supervisor at Mass General Hospital), followed by 10 years with Harvard Medical School in the Department of Surgery conducting research studies.
In 1964, she married and began her career as a Naval Officer’s wife with travel to California, Delaware, Florida, South Carolina, Turkey and Virginia. After a hiatus for childrearing and 10 years with the Virginia Beach Health Department, she returned to school, obtaining her Master’s Degree in Community Health Education and Gerontology from Old Dominion University.
Marilyn is also an entrepreneur, having started Elder Care At Home, Inc. which became “Elder Care At Home”, Inc and “The Caregivers” For 18 years she has enjoyed a stellar reputation as a consultant in gerontology and long term care, and her home care agency is well regarded as superior in quality, direction and purpose .
Marilyn is Board Certified in Gerontological Nursing and has maintained membership in numerous professional organizations, including those that foster women in business, such as the Rotarian Club. She was chosen the 2006 Senior Hero by Bon Secours DePaul Senior Health and was an honoree for 2005 Entrepreneurial Woman of the Year.
She sits on the Boards of Director for Sullivan House, Norfolk Task Force on Aging, Tidewater Financial Group and on the Boards of Director for Sullivan House, Norfolk Task Force on Aging and Hospice Alliance of Hampton Roads.
